High Commissioner THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSIONER TO UNITED KINGDOM AND NORTHERN IRELAND
The
High Commissioner Duties: The incumbent represents the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Profile: His Excellency Prince Bola Ajibola studied at the Holborn College of Law, University of London, from 1959-62; and was called to the bar as an Honourable Member of Lincoln's Inn on November 27 1962. As a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) as well as erstwhile Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Judge Ajibola is a highly-respected national statesman and a doyen of international law. His pedigree as an experienced judge got international recognition in 1991 when he was appointed to serve on the International Court of Justice in The Hague, The Netherlands. Thereafter, in April of 1994, he was appointed Judge ad-hoc to the Permanent Court of International Arbitration (also in The Hague) with regard to the land and maritime dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria. Judge Ajibola has also served on various other international arbitration bodies and legal institutions. These include the World Bank Administrative Tribunal which sat in Washington DC and in London; the UN International Law Commission, Geneva; as well as the Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, in Sarajevo. He is the President of The World Association of Judges of the World Jurist Association (Washington DC). Judge Ajibola is a philanthropist. His stints in the promotion of justice and as an international arbiter have played a big part in further developing his altruistic instincts. This was underscored in 1995 when he founded African Concern, the non-governmental organisation that is dedicated to the promotion of peace and socio-economic development in Africa.
