The anti-racist and multicultural festival for London was held recently in finsbury Park north London. This event was organised by the Mayor of London, SERTUC and the National Assembly Against Racism. This event played host to a variety of people with different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
The event featured an array of well-known musicians comedians and political activists with a strong passion for the campaign against racism.

Present at the event were hip-hop legends RUN DMC, Courtney Pine, Mis-teeq Choice FM Djs, Ben Onono, State of Bengal and many others.

During the welcome speech by the Mayor of London, he did mention about being proud to be the Mayor of a city where one in three Londoners is from a minority ethnic community and also over half of Britain's population-Asian, African, Caribbean Lives in the city .Ken Livingstone stated that this cultural diversity is the bedrock of London's dynamism and future as a great world city.

The Mayor also used this opportunity to say something deeply serious about racism and that racism has no place in a city like ours.
He did acknowledge the fact that Black and Asian people are still disproportionately confined to the least skilled jobs, lowest wages and poorest accommodation.
Even more shameful is the fact that Black people in London are still daily subject to racist attacks from the verbal street abuse of the ignorant to the racist violence of the deeply dangerous.

The Respect festival is a celebration but also a pledge to use all our resources to eliminate discrimination and end racism!
