| The
most famous and largest street carnival in Europe took place in
Notting Hill London on the 26th and 27th of august 2001. This yearly
event, which began in 1964, as a local affair by the West Indian
immigrants has now turned out to be a full -blooded all nations
affair. In recent years, participating groups have come from different
parts of the world including Nigeria to enjoy this electrifying
atmosphere. |

This
event, which attracts a crowd of over a million people, is the only
time in London when you see flamboyantly dressed floats and spectacularly
clothed dancers take to the streets. This year's program included
masquerade bands, steel bands, calypso singers and numerous food
stalls.

| Among
the food stalls is the ever-popular Nigerian stand where Obalande
Suya serves different kinds of Nigerian food and other delicacies,
which were served with the strong Nigerian liquor namely Guilder
and Guinness. The Nigerian section is a very interesting area to
Nigerians and other nationals because this is the only place you
can listen to the Legendary Afro beat music of Fela Anilapokuti.

This
is also an environment to meet long lost friends and meet new
ones. It is also the meeting point for undergraduate students
from Nigerian institutions to meet and merry . This year's event
has been marked as one of the safest carnivals with no deaths
due to violence or trouble.
Gisters.com
and other media houses including different radio and television
stations were there to cover and promote the event.
